With 6 weeks left in this year's legislative session and scandals continuing to rock Albany, we're determined to keep attention on the scandal of New York's first-in-the-nation inequality. That's why we're returning to the State Capitol for four more Moral Mondays vigils, continuing to call on our leaders to pass urgently needed legislation to benefit the most vulnerable in our state.
We're gearing up for our annual Faith for a Fair NY Retreat, held this year on Sept. 16-17 at the Dominican Retreat Center in Niskayuna! Join other faith leaders - both lay and clergy from many denominations and faiths - as we build relationships, learn together, and plan powerful action toward economic justice in New York State. Our workshop topics this year will include Single-Payer Healthcare, Effective Advocacy, Moral Budget, Low-Wage Worker Campaigns, and Immigrant Rights. Come be inspired and get connected to great work happening across the state!
Every individual is part of a community. Every community is impacted by social and economic injustice. Every one of us has the power to act for justice. Your passions and questions are invited to connect with other justice leaders in an interfaith retreat, jointly organized and sponsored by the Labor-Religion Coalition of NYS, the NYS Council of Churches, Interfaith Impact, An Empire State of Tzedek, and the NYS Episcopal Public Policy Network. We want to help you begin (and continue) to build those skills and connections which will empower your communities for real systemic change, making a better world for all of us.
Yesterday, over 70 people from around New York State gathered at the Capitol in the sub-zero cold to call on Governor Cuomo to address income inequality in his State of the State address. They braved the freezing temperatures because they had dreams and hopes for a better future. They spoke of a future where our children have a good education, where everyone has access to good jobs and living wages and where the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes.
