Stand Up for Public Schools in New York

New York's public school students and teachers need our voices now more than ever. Current state budget proposals could leave districts across the state woefully underfunded, while at the same making teachers' jobs dependent on high-stakes tests that fail to address the real problems of poverty and inequality.

This afternoon, NYS Labor-Religion Coalition and our partners are holding a rally and Moral Mondays vigil at the New York State Capitol for full and fair public school funding. But no matter where you are in New York State today, you can join the call.

Let's show that people of faith in New York care about our public schools. Add your name to this open letter calling for the additional $2.2 billion in state aid that our schools need.

Right now in New York State, our poorest schools districts are trying to make ends meet with $8,733 less per pupil than our wealthiest districts. These schools need funding to pay for the resources all students need: reasonable class sizes, updated text books, safe and comfortable classrooms, art, music and sports programs, and talented educators.
